Werk Esterwegen is situated alongside the road next to the Küsten Kanal in the north west of Germany. An elderly Diema (No.1782) was used for the line work here.

On the 4th june 2003, the Diema was photographed bringing in the last train of the day.

The loading area was only about 0.75km from the works. A second Diema was at the back of the train and appeared to be used for transport for the excavator operator.

The other loco here was a 1958 Schöma number 2097. This seemed to be relegated to shunting in the yard.

There were traces of earlier tracks embedded in concrete in the yard, here partly covered by peat. The current tracks entered the shed for tipping to the right of this just off the picture.

Wagons tended to be emptied when lorries came in to be loaded, and so peat was not being stockpiled on site.

by the time of the next visit in 2012 the works had cesed for several years. The original sign for the peatworks was looking a little worse for wear.

One of the Diema's was still on site although off the tracks, near the entrance gates.

By this time all the tracks had been taken up and the only remaining rail was that enbedded in concrete. The site had yet to be fully cleared, but in a few years there would be nothing left here to suggest a railway had ever operated.
