On the outskirts of Berlin, near Königs-Wusterhausen, extensive sand pits have been worked for many years, close to the tiny village of Pätz. A 900mm gauge railway had been used until recently to transport sand about 4 kilometers, crossing the 179 main road to access the unloading depot.

The railway was worked by the big V10C locos. 2 of these locos were normally in use. On the 24th March in 1995 however, a track repair gang were working on a section of track and no sand trains wer running.

For much of its length, the railway ran through pine forest, alongside a rough track. There was a passing loop about two thirds of the way along, and evidence of another branch to the south which was disused.

In March 1997, at the passing loop, a snow shower had made photography difficult as one of the V10C diesels pushes a train of five tipping wagons away to the sand pits. It then drew to a halt to waiting for the passing train to arrive.

The loaded train arrived a few minutes later, and after a short conversation between the drivers the trains went on their way.

At the works on the shore of the lake, the narrow gauge tracks fanned out into several sidings where there were several unloading points.

Once at the tipping shed the loco slowly drew forward as each wagon is tipped. The LKM built V10C diesels are rated at just over 100hp and typically hauled rakes of six of the large side tipping wagons.

At least eight of these locomotives were counted in 1994, although several were in a poor state of repair, such as this example found at the back of the works.

The terminus was split in two by the main road, with the loco and storage sheds and passing loop on the west side, and the tipping sheds and other sidings on the east side. In October 1994 a train of empties is ready to depart for the sand pits.

In the open shelter next to the loco sheds there were always several locos to be found. Even today in 2019, with the railway disused a number of the rusting locos can still be seen here.
