Antonio Martinetti has sent some fascinating photos of a railway that had previously been closed down. The other salt works at Margherita di Savoia, Trapani and Volterra have all switched over to using more modern methods.
This plant extends over 827 hectares and has a total of 6.5km of track, approximately half of which is in use.
The site was originally closed in 1999, but in 2002 passed into new owership, and by the summer of 2003 salt production had started again.
After a further 2 years of inactivity it would appear that in 2006 the railway has been put back into use again, using 2 locos.
A line up of 6 locos at the plant in 2005.
Loco No.13 in early August in 2006.
The locos are No.3 "Greco & C." (1960), an original loco at the plant, and No.14 (Deutz) coming from Margherita di Savoia's other now closed salt plant in southern Italy.
